Early Life

Gaines’ parents, Jerry and Nan Stevens, met in Seoul in South Korea. Her father was serving in Vietnam at the time, Gaines revealed in her book before he returned home to Wichita.

Joanna is one of three daughters the pair had with the family heritage boasting Korean, Lebanon and German ancestry.

Both her and husband Chip went to Baylor University in Texas but their paths never crossed until meeting at a car dealership owned by her family .

Joanna and Chip have had five children of their own – Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie and Crew – and live on a 40-acre farm in Texas.

TV Presenter & Star

Gaines is a designer and TV presenter, most notably as the star of the hit series Fixer Upper on HGTV which she launched in 2013 along with husband chip.

Chip and Joanna Gaines worked on a makeover in their hometown Waco in Texas before starring in the HGTV program Fixer Upper as reality TV stars.

They made the show the number one on American television, sparking a national obsession with farmhouse chic and interior design and makeover ideas from Joanna Gaines.

Business Owner

Gaines and her husband Chip have a love of designing and remodeling homes first, so much so they are the co-owners and co-founders of design and real estate company Magnolia.

They opened Magnolia Market in 2003 and Joanna began working on her design and style.

The Gaines’ have now expanded the business and run Magnolia Homes, Magnolia Market and Marketplace and Magnolia Seed Supply in Waco.

They are also involved in other local businesses including Silos Baking Co, The Little Shop of Bosque, Magnolsias Press and several vacation homes they rent out.

Magnolia home construction and design business has expanded into the Magnolia market, restaurants, books, magazines, a real estate company, luxury real estate rentals and a successful product line for Target.

In 2018, Gaines’ first cookbook was published and she has now published The Gaines Story, Home Body, Magnolia Table, Magnolia Bakery among her books.
